Kellogg Alumni dinner in Washington, DC group photo

What began as a spontaneous idea during an alumni gathering in Washington, DC, last spring has blossomed into an initiative that enriches both current Kellogg Institute undergraduate students and the alumni community. Known as Tuesdays with Alumni, this virtual series serves as a platform where students gain practical advice and real-world insights, while alumni generously share their experiences to guide and inspire the next generation of University of Notre Dame graduates.

The concept behind Tuesdays with Alumni is simple. Every week, alumni make themselves available for virtual meetings via Zoom, offering students an opportunity to engage directly with those who once walked the same paths at Notre Dame. Students register to join small group sessions, typically comprising 2 to 5 participants, fostering an intimate and candid atmosphere. This format encourages dialogue, allowing undergraduates to ask detailed questions about career trajectories, life after college, and the diverse challenges and opportunities encountered in professional environments.

Participating alumni draw from their own Kellogg experiences – whether in International Development Studies, the International Scholars Program, or conducting undergraduate research abroad. These shared foundations often spark rich conversations, as alumni reflect on how their time at Kellogg shaped their personal and professional journeys. In turn, they provide valuable guidance on making the most of undergraduate opportunities and preparing for life beyond Notre Dame.

Holly Rivers, Associate Director of the Kellogg Institute, expressed enthusiasm for the popularity of the series. “I have been especially amazed at how eager our alumni are to participate in this series. With two alumni holding sessions every Tuesday, we have had to turn a number of alumni away this semester,” she said. “Their sense of genuine desire to give back to today’s students is truly heartening and speaks to the strong community spirit that Kellogg nurtures.”

As it continues to grow, Tuesdays with Alumni remains a vibrant bridge between Kellogg alumni and students – one that reflects the Institute’s enduring commitment to fostering community, mentorship, and lifelong learning.
