Afro Argentines Beyond Buenos Aires: Rediscovering the Hidden Heritage
Kellogg Institute Graduate Research Grants
This project seeks to understand how the discourses of the beginning of democratic times in Argentina created an official history which affirmed that both Afro descendants and indigenous population had been extinct from the country. At the same time, I investigate how the Argentine public institutions –such as schools and museums– were able to reproduce and transmit this narrative throughout the twentieth century only to start being questioned in the first decades of the twenty-first.
