Presentation:  The Digital Media and the Fading of Political Parties as Constitutional Safeguards 

REPORT:

The ICON-S Annual Conference was held on June 29, 30, and July 1 at University College Dublin. There, I had the opportunity to present my work on two panels. The first of my presentations took place on July 30, when, with other young Chilean scholars, we discussed the lessons learned from Chile’s two failed constitution-making processes. My presentation focused specifically on the negative effects that certain theories of constituent power had on those processes. Below are a picture of the panel and an image of how it was displayed in the ICON official program.

Finally, on the third day of the Conference, July 1st, I participated in the second panel, where I presented some of my research on political parties and democratic backsliding. There, I had the opportunity to discuss my work with scholars from Greece, Belgium, and Brazil who were working on related topics. Please find below a picture of the panel and an image showing how it was announced in the official ICON program. I have also included a picture with a Notre Dame colleague, Felipe Lyon, at the entrance of one of the UCD buildings where the conference took place.

Overall, the Conference was a great opportunity to share my work and to connect with other scholars from around the world. I am very grateful to the Kellogg Institute for providing me with the opportunity to participate in this event.
