Daniel Brinks

Daniel BrinksDaniel Brinks, assistant professor in the Department of Government at the University of Texas at Austin, will spend the 2006-2007 academic year at Kellogg.

Brinks' research project is entitled “Law and Rights in Developing Countries: The Impact of Legal Strategies on Social and Economic Rights.” The project examines how legal strategies are used to extend social and economic rights in developing countries, under what conditions the use of these strategies yields positive results for litigants, and the impact of judicializing demand for these rights on the overall distribution of social and economic rights. The project draws on extensive archival and field research in Brazil, India, South Africa, Nigeria and Indonesia.

Brinks holds a PhD in political science from the University of Notre Dame and a JD from the University of Michigan Law School. He was previously a clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
