Summer Internship Program Locations & Descriptions
The Kellogg Institute for International Studies will offer internships with organizations in the United States, Africa, Asia and Latin America for summer 2010.
Several sites have internships in many locations. The Kellogg Institute will fund internships in the locations listed next to the organization name on Kellogg Institute internship web pages. If the location is not listed, we will NOT fund internships in that country.

International Sites – Latin America
Coprodeli – Peru
Two internships are available with this organization.
Music - Pachacutec is a shantytown that grew up in less than a week as the result of a land-for-votes scam. Poor families came from near and far bringing with them a wide range of musical traditions. The student intern will research the various musical styles of Peru and then work with Coprodeli staff to develop a music program that will welcome all traditions and blend them into school music programs as well as into the life of the community.
Theater - There are approximately 100,000 people living in the shantytown of Pachacutec, Peru which lacks running water and has only provisional electricity. Over 95% of the residents of Pachacutec live on less than one dollar per day and unemployment is a chronic problem. Coprodeli has an array of programs that provide for food, clothing and shelter; and others which help people help themselves out of poverty including schools, employment training, habitat and micro-business development. Coprodeli is also dedicated to the goal of providing opportunities that feed the human spirit through its music and theater programs as well as within the Coprodeli libraries and churches. The theater intern will work alongside Coprodeli staff to produce a summer musical and/or a dramatic play starring local students. They will also work in related theater projects.
While in Peru, student interns will live in the Coprodeli hostel near the girls' orphanage and eat two meals per day with Coprodeli. Applicants should be sophomores or juniors majoring in music or theatre.

Foreign Commercial Service – Argentina
The intern will assist the commercial attaché with gathering and analyzing trade and commercial data about Argentina and U.S. business in Argentina. Duties may include working with American businesspeople to assess business opportunities in Argentina, preparing reports on industrial sectors in Argentina and routine office tasks. Must have US or Argentine citizenship. Proficiency in Spanish preferred.

Foundation for Sustainable Development – Argentina, Nicaragua, India, Uganda
FSD supports the efforts of grassroots development organizations in the developing world that are working to better their communities, environments, and the economic opportunities around them. The organization supports interns in the following countries: Argentina, India, Kenya, Nicaragua, Peru, and Uganda. (Kenya sites are not available to ND students.) Internships are available for students with a background in human rights, economics, microfinance, law and political science as well as other areas of study. Students wishing to pursue an internship through this organization should see the website for specific details. Students should indicate on the Kellogg application the country and area of study where they would prefer to intern. Several positions are available with this organization. Applicants should have conversational level Spanish (at least two years at the college level) for Latin American countries. In order to receive Kellogg funding, students must apply through the Kellogg application as opposed to FSD’s application.

ProWorld Service Corps – Brazil, Mexico, Peru, India, Thailand
The mission of ProWorld is to promote social and economic development, empower communities, and cultivate educated, compassionate global citizens. To achieve these goals, students intern with ProWorld in a variety of capacities working on projects related to education, environment, women's rights, journalism, etc. Applicants for Peru and Mexico should be proficient in Spanish. All applicants should be highly motivated. In order to receive Kellogg funding, students must apply through the Kellogg application. Kellogg interns will not take language courses. WorldTeach – Costa Rica, Ecuador, Namibia, China
WorldTeach is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that provides opportunities for individuals to make a meaningful contribution to international education by living and working as volunteer teachers in developing countries. Based at the Center for International Development at Harvard University, WorldTeach offers the benefits of a well-established volunteer organization, while also providing more comprehensive, personalized support and training as a small NGO. In each of our programs, volunteers are placed in schools and host communities in developing countries that specifically request WorldTeach volunteers and would otherwise be unable to afford or locate qualified teachers. Volunteers receive training, language preparation, and field support, empowering them to make an impact that will last long after they leave. Notre Dame interns will have the opportunity to serve in schools, engage in local projects, travel with fellow volunteers, and immerse themselves in the life of the community while living with host families or in teacher apartments. Eight-week summer programs are available in China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Namibia.
