Application

Application Procedure: Application materials are available here on our website. A complete application consists of six copies of each of the following:

  • A cover sheet with personal information and a research summary.

  • A budget (download this form) for anticipated expenses incurred during the grant period, including travel, food and lodging, and other expenses (form provided).

  • A description of the research topic and methodology, not to exceed six double-spaced pages, including a bibliography (minimum margins one inch top, bottom, and sides; minimum type size 10 points or 12 characters per inch). The project description should include six main elements: an introduction, background information, the methods to be used, a schedule, a description of how you and your adviser will work together on the problem and how often you will meet, and a description of the final product (Senior Honor's Essay, report, article).

In addition, the application should include

  • A copy of the applicant's transcript. (Click here for transcript request info)
    Courses for the current semester should be included.

  • A letter of recommendation (download this form)  from the faculty member who is committed to oversee the research project. The letter should be submitted in a sealed, signed envelope with the application materials or sent directly by the faculty member to the Institute.

For your convenience, a checklist (download it) is available to assist you with the application process. Please do not include the checklist when submitting your application.

Levels of Support: Funding is available for a variety of project costs, including research materials and assistance as well as travel. Individual grants will not normally exceed $4,000, and proposals will be considered for any amount below this figure. Applicants are required to notify the Kellogg Institute of any funding received from another source; in some cases the Institute may adjust the amount of its award. Undergraduates are eligible for only one Kellogg/Kroc undergraduate research grant.

Students currently studying abroad: It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that the required number of copies are turned in by the deadline.
