Cecilia LeroCecilia Lero

Kellogg PhD Fellow

My name is Cecilia Lero and I am a PhD student in political science specializing in comparative politics. My intended dissertation topic is the comparative role of the judiciary and constitutional courts in democratization with special emphasis on Southeast Asia and Latin America. My broad research interests center around democratization and institutional development, including public law and legal theory, interactions between social movements and states, and the relationship between developed and developing countries via foreign aid and investment.

A Filipino-American born and raised in New York, I completed my BA at New York University, majoring in politics and minoring in music and Spanish. I spent the last few years as an NGO worker, political activist, and aspiring intellectual in various places such as New York, the Philippines, Serbia, Australia, Burma, Zimbabwe, and Washington, DC. Immediately before beginning my PhD, I spent seven months in the Philippines working for Akbayan! Citizens’ Action Party and the Noynoy Aquino for President campaign.

When I’m not trying to be a revolutionary I enjoy cooking, eating, singing, dancing, 1990s hip hop, and crocheting in a rocking chair.
