Literature

The partnership between the Ministry of Culture and Kellogg brings together Brazilians and Americans, students and professors alike, and encourages a mutual understanding of both societies through lectures, discussions, and classroom visits.

Brazilian literature comes alive at Notre Dame with the help of the Ministry of Culture in Brazil and through the work of the University's Romance Languages and Literatures Department.

Isabel Ferreira-Gould and Sandra Teixeira are Notre Dame faculty in the Romance Languages and Literatures Department who teach Portuguese and also help students on campus to understand and get excited about Brazilian literature and culture.

Bringing the Brazilian historical novel into focus for students was Valter Sinder, the first occupant of the Visiting Chair in the Study of Brazilian Culture at Notre Dame.
Brazil's literature and history will diffuse into the US and beyond as Notre Dame works on publishing a series of classics translated from the Portuguese and as the Notre Dame library is endowed with a collection of Brazilian works.
