Matthew is a doctoral candidate in a joint program through the Department of Sociology and the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies. He is also affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Center for Social Network Science and Applications, the Center for the Study of Social Movements, and the Culture Workshop. He holds an M.A. in international peace and conflict resolution from American University and a B.A. in philosophy and Christian ministries from George Fox University. Before transitioning into academia, he served as the deputy director of Nonviolence International in Washington, D.C. and as a field team coordinator for Christian Peacemaker Teams in Iraq and Palestine
