K-12 Resources

As part of its educational mission, the Kellogg Institute provides resources for K-12 teachers to gain knowledge about Latin America as well as share resources with their students.  Teachers can utilize Kellogg’s Traveling Trunks of Latin America, Traveling Trunks of Africa and Video Lending Library to expose their students to the culture, music and artifacts of Latin American countries.  Teachers have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about specific issues relating to Latin America through Teacher Discussion Groups.  These events include presentations by Notre Dame faculty and international students, and offer Latin American food and music.  The Institute produces a newsletter Perspectives from Latin America that contains articles written by ND students who have traveled or lived abroad and is written for students at the K-12 level.   Teachers are welcome to attend the Institute’s many events such as its annual Brazilian Carnaval or the international film series.

The Institute strives to make teachers aware of multiple resources available to them.  The Outreach pages include links to websites containing lesson plans and curriculum, such as Michigan State University’s Latin American School and Educational Resources (LASER) Web site.  Lesson plans can also be found in Web Resources.
