TransAtlantic Collaborative Study of Proposed United Nations Treaty on Business and Human Rights

Faculty Research Grant
Grant Year
2014-2015

Should the United Nations adopt a treaty on business and human rights, and, if so, what should be its form and content? This initiative consists of a two-year series of collaborative meetings in London and Geneva, designed to produce expert studies to inform UN negotiations on a possible international treaty to regulate issues of business and human rights. The project builds on a collaboration underway with the chair of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, and with experts who met at Notre Dame’s London Gateway in May 2014. The project will precede and parallel the UN process due to begin in 2015. It aims to inform both the diplomatic and the public debate with assessments by international law scholars, business ethicists, business lawyers, and human rights lawyers and NGO’s.
