Faculty Research Seed Grants
Request for Proposals
Deadline: October 19, 2009
The Kellogg Institute’s Ford Family Program in Human Development Studies and Solidarity seeks to promote research that develops a greater understanding of the causes of extreme poverty in the developing world and points to sustainable solutions. The Ford Program is especially dedicated to building international research teams that include Notre Dame faculty members as well as researchers and practitioners in the developing world.
Therefore, the Ford Program invites Notre Dame faculty members to submit proposals for research seed grants of up to $15,000. All regular Notre Dame faculty are eligible to apply for these grants. Seed grants can be used for a variety of purposes, such as gathering or analyzing baseline data, running pilot programs, and travel. Seed grants are expected to last three to twelve months.
The Ford Program encourages proposals for research that call for fieldwork in sub-Saharan Africa and focus on the following themes: (1) water systems and sanitation, (2) health, and (3) education. Special consideration will be given to proposals that include researchers and/or practitioners from the developing world and proposals that can lead to significantly larger proposals for external funding.
Proposals should not exceed 10 pages, double-spaced and 12-point font, and should include the CVs of the principal investigator(s), a detailed budget, and a timeline for research. If appropriate, proposals should outline how the seed grant will lead to a larger proposal for external funding Awardees will be required to submit a final report.
Three hard copies of proposals are due by 5:00pm, October 19, 2009 in the Ford Family Program offices, 213 Hesburgh Center for International Studies. Awards will be announced by December 1, 2009.
