Sara Sievers

Senior Director, Earth Institute
Columbia University

Senior director at Columbia University’s Earth Institute, Sara Sievers has extensive experience in advocacy, policy, and governance issues pertaining to development. The founding executive director of the Center for Globalization and Development at the Earth Institute, known for its Millennium Villages Project, she currently works on development issues in Africa, including advising the government of Nigeria on its millennial development goals.
With a career that started in the US Foreign Service, Sievers has played key roles at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where she led global health and advocacy efforts, and Harvard University’s Center for Global Development, where she served as founding executive director. The HDC committee is honored to welcome her to the campus of Notre Dame to share with us her experiences working in international development.
