Regional Workshops on Latin America
Tuesday, May 16
The Kellogg Institute for International Studies, together with Michigan State University’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, will host two workshops bringing together Latin Americanists in political science and sociology and experts on the history and culture of the Andean region from several leading universities in the tri-state region of Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.
The workshops will convene on Tuesday, May 16 at the Hesburgh Center for International Studies at the Notre Dame campus. Faculty members and PhD candidates from several universities, including Notre Dame, will present and discuss their latest research. Other universities with participants include Michigan State University, Northwestern University, the University of Illinois and the University of Chicago.
These regional workshops represent Kellogg’s ongoing efforts to support scholarly entrepreneurship and to encourage communication among individuals and institutions about timely issues in Latin America. This year’s workshops will be divided into two discussion tracks: Latin American political science and sociology and a multi-disciplinary study of the Andean region. Kellogg Institute Director Scott Mainwaring and Faculty Fellow, Michael Coppedge will organize the political science/sociology workshop, and Kellogg Faculty Fellows Ted Beatty and Sabine MacCormack are organizing the Andean workshop.
