US and international experts on the Latin American economy will gather on April 19 for a daylong conference on "Latin America in the Global Economy" at the University of Notre Dame. The conference will address Latin America's economic challenges, discuss the imperative to raise productivity growth, and propose next steps on the region's path to overcome the economic burden of the past.

Among the scheduled speakers are Guillermo Perry, the chief economist on Latin America and the Caribbean for the World Bank; Anne Krueger, first deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund; E. Gerald Corrigan, managing director for Goldman Sachs and former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York; Augusto de la Torre, senior advisor to the World Bank Group; and Dennis Flannery, executive vice president of the Inter-American Development Bank. Former Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo will deliver the keynote address at an invitation-only dinner to conclude the conference.
