Checklist for Teachers Preparing for a Speaker

In order to best help our Student Speakers come prepared to make a quality presentation we've suggest considering the following points when you communicate with your class' presenter.

Checklist for Teachers Preparing for a Speaker

Once Kellogg has matched you with a speaker, we ask that you communicate directly with the speaker.   Here is a list of things to think about to help the event go smoothly.

  • Tell the speaker the time that you would like them to be at the school and when the class ends.
  • Give a very specific description of your class to the speaker.  Include information about the learning level of the group and exactly what topics you would like to have covered.
  • Prepare your class by covering some background information ahead of time.
  • Have your students think of questions they will want to ask.
  • Reserve any audio-visual equipment that the student will need.
  • Be sure the student knows where to park and how to get into the building.
  • Notify the office that you will be having a guest and send an escort to the office at the appropriate time.
  • Please stay in the classroom at all times.  The speaker is not responsible for maintaining discipline.
  • It would be a good idea to send a reminder email to the student stating the specific time, place, and topic a few days before the engagement.
  • Be sure the speaker has a phone number to call the day of the talk in case of illness or other unforeseen event.
  • The Kellogg Institute would appreciate receiving photographs of the event.  Any photos sent might be used on the website.
  • Provide the speaker with an escort out of the building after the presentation is complete.
  • Please take the time to complete a short evaluation form after the event.  The form can also be found from the main Global Speakers Program web page.
