Wendy Hunter

Wendy Hunter, associate professor of government, University of Texas at Austin, was a Kellogg visiting fellow during the 2004–05 academic year. Her early work focused on Latin American militaries during the transition from authoritarianism, and resulted in the book Eroding Military Influence in Brazil (University of North Carolina Press, 1997). More recently, she has investigated social policy issues in Latin America, with special attention to the politics of education and health reform.
The author of numerous articles in journals such as Comparative Politics, the American Political Science Review, and World Politics, Hunter also has a book forthcoming with Cambridge University Press on the growth and transformation of the Workers’ Party in Brazil. She holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.
